African Cichlids
Will my red taild shark be ok to mix with African cichlids?
i have a red tailed shark and a mollie which are very well paired.
im looking to start a tank with African cichlids. will the red tailed shark and the mollie be ok to mix with African cichlids?
I wouldn't advise it.
Sharks usually keep themselves to themselves and ordinarily wouldn't be bothered by bigger fish but keeping Cichlids is a different ball game.
In many Cichlid varieties you will often find dominant fish (or small groups) which can bully other fish of the same variety. The shark would be no exception, you'd probably find early on that Cichlids would batter the shark all the time and force it to hind behind your filter.
The Mollie is definitely a no-no!!
If you're gonna start a Cichlid tank always remember the names of the varieties you are buying so that you can be advised by whichever shop you go to on what other species are compatible.
Another tip with Cichlids is when introducing any new stocks try moving around any ornaments, rocks, bogwood etc so that all your fish have to start from scratch to find their territory again!!
