Power Head
I have tried everything too get the leg of my outboard but the drive shaft is ceased into the power head.?
Any suggestions how too get it free?
It is a evinrude 1985 7.5hp
I have tried just about everything too get it off.
I am just trying too replace the water pump.
I have tried whacking it with a rubber mallet gently it still wont come off. All the bolts are taken out, I am pretty positive i didn't miss any.
What does the workshop manual suggest?
While you may not like it, fundamentally the manual is the most effective tool you will ever purchase - without it you are flying blind. You would be amazed at the frequent requests marine workshops get to fix something that was attempted at home without the right procedure or special tools - often this ends up several times more costly than doing it right the first time per the manual or getting it done by a professional. The professional will ALWAYS have a manual to hand for reference - no matter how experienced. Avoid any mechanic who does not have manuals and special tools etc.
The only way for you to be certain that all fasteners and links are undone is to check the manual, assuming this to be the case the upper leg case can be supported well with blocks and props, the lower leg can have a reasonable amount of weight applied to it and a few reasonable blows with a soft face mallet may eventually succeed in dropping the shaft, ensure the leg cannot fall far or is otherwise protected - if you go too hard you can fracture the alloy castings and even damage bearings and other parts, so there is some subtlety to this which comes with experience. If seriously welded in place it becomes difficult to not damage something - it is much better to drop a leg every couple of years and apply the appropriate anti-seize to bolts and so on, while checking seals (which are cheap) and replacing impellors and gaskets. Bottom ends don't fail much at all if this is done. If you are the inheritor of someone else's slack attitude - sorry, that is why older machines without a very comprehensive documented service record are so heavily discounted in price, regardless of hours.
